In your hands you are now holding a copy of The LyngBox story, or possibly reading it directly from our website. The road from conception to realisation, and to you the consumer, has been long yet inspirational for all involved. After years of dreaming, researching and testing it’s finally here — the LyngBox.
It started from a simple, if incredibly ambitious, technical objective – to create the best satellite receiver the world has ever seen. A challenging, even daunting, task indeed, but once we started there was simply no turning back. At every stage of development, we assessed and refined the various features of the LyngBox in order to ensure that it would truly be the top-of-the-line, top-of-everyone’s mind, HDTV-invention to own.
In collaboration with our key partners, the European Space Agency and LyngSat Network, we discussed what it would take, and agreed that the uniqueness of the LyngBox would be defined by three core objectives:
- technical superiority
- ease of use
- quality, eye-catching, design
Looking at the finished product now, I still believe these straightforward statements truly capture the essence of what we have created. Remote recording
With remote access to the LyngBox over the Internet you can record programs even when you are away from home. This means you can schedule what to record when you are at work, out traveling etc. Simply select from the huge range of channels that your LyngBox gives you access to and the programmes of your choice will be stored on the built-in hard drive.
Your LyngBox is more than that…
The LyngBox enables you to enjoy viewing digital photo’s on TV instead of a PC, and if you have a high-definition screen then your pictures will be as clear as reality itself. Storing your photo’s and movies as high-quality, compressed, files on the LyngBox hard-drive is a convenient, flexible, and space-saving solution. If you need more storage it’s simplicity itself – just plug in a USB compliant memory source.
Why develop a LyngBox?
Ever since I started LyngSat in 1995, I have been receiving e-mails from visitors at LyngSat seeking advice on what satellite receiver to buy for receiving as many channels as possible. Up until now I haven’t been able to recommend any receiver, as I’d never found one good enough. Even if a receiver is good at certain things, it’s often bad at others. I’d never found the ‘complete’ receiver, one that had both all the good technical features and that can show all the technical information.
I have now got the opportunity to develop a satellite receiver together with persons who have long experience from this business. The goal is that this receiver, LyngBox, would have all the features that I and other DXers could wish for. The LyngBox is a technically fully-featured satellite receiver, with DVB-S/S2/T, MPEG-2/4 and SD/HD capabilities. You can also add a 2nd DVB-S/S2 tuner. Thanks to the connection with LyngSat, you can get daily updated channel info, so you never have to search for channels again. All new channels will simply “pop up” in your channel list.
Thanks to LyngSat Maps, the box is smart. According to where you live and the size of your dish, it will determine approximately what satellite beams you will be able to receive, so you don’t have to get your channel lists clogged up with thousands of channels you can’t receive anyway. With the LyngSat Guide you will also be able to make both direct and remote recordings of programs from some of the most popular TV channels in Europe.
As if this wasn’t enough, you can also handle e-mails and watch terrestrial channels with your LyngBox. For DXers, you will have all the technical details at the touch of a button.
